Picking (harvesting) Garden Peas

Picking (harvesting) Garden Peas

Harvesting garden peas should begin when the pods are fully filled. Although the pods may appear swollen the peas inside may not be fully sized. Gently squeeze the pod to see if it is filled or soft. You will want to wait until the peas inside the pod are fully developed. Two or three picks may be necessary to remove all of the pods because all pods may not mature at the same time. Peas can be stored safely under refrigeration either in the pod or shelled. Make sure to use an airtight container or plastic bag to avoid moisture loss.
